The History of Rednal

Rednal is located just nine miles south-west of Birmingham city centre and forms part of the Longbridge parish. Rednal is considered a relatively small area when compared with nearby Bromsgrove and Birmingham, with just 2000 residents. It has two country parks close by too: the Lickey Hills and the Waseley Hills, adding to the rural feeling.

Even though it is small, Rednal has a long history of Roman and Anglo-Saxon settlement. It has hedgerows dating back 700 years along Lickey Road, and a mixture of modern and older housing stock available.

It is bounded by three hills - Rednal Hill, Bilberry Hill and Cofton Hill, each of which offer panoramic views of Birmingham. There are four primary schools and two secondary schools close by.

Rednal was renowned, like much of the West Midlands, for its engineering prowess. It used to have a tramway running to Birmingham which drew huge crowds to the area in the 1920s and 30s as people flocked from the city to take in the beautiful Worcestershire countryside.  It was formerly the base for MG Rover, and parts of the factory still remain.

Apart from it being a lovely dormitory village, Rednal is close to the retail and commercial area of Rubery, which boasts a cinema, fitness areas, offices and supermarkets.

You can find a wide range of properties and prices in Rednal from modern contemporary apartments, costing less than £100,000 to sturdy former local authority stock, right up to above the half a million mark for detached modern and period homes nestled within the countryside.
Properties in Rednal had an overall average price of £213,255 in 2020.
The majority of sales in Rednal during this year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £210,641. Detached properties sold for an average of £349,789, with terraced properties fetching £192,141. To compare these to similar local markets, these figures are lower than Bromsgrove (average sold price £277,484) but similar to Redditch.
